Philly Cheese Steak

I'm back!  Sorta.  I'm still kind of vacation-hung over from all the fun, food, friends, and family (alliterate THIS) this break.  Sorry about the Sunny-side Up hiatus.

One of the places I visited over break is Philadelphia.  My fiance's sister and her husband live out in that area, and so some of us gathered there to do some hanging out and sight-seeing before heading to New Jersey for the family reunion.  The day we went out to Philadelphia, it was absolutely freezing cold.  So we spent quite some time in the Museum of Art.  Here's the view of the city from the balcony of the museum.

But we're not here to talk about the view :)

One of the things we just had to do was get the world famous Philly Cheese Steak!  Last year when I was here, Cousin Mike and I did a taste comparison between Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's Steaks, rival cheese steak sandwich joints that are across the street from each other, and Mike and I had decided that Pat's was way better.  So that's where we went this time.

Mind you, it was like negative a zillion with the icy windchill, but there was still a long line outside the joint.  We waited miserably in line (or on line, as the east coast folks say) losing our minds in the cold, and finally came to the front of the line.  There are instructions on how to order, and if you do it wrong, you have to go back to the end of the line.  Drew's dad was a pro...he ordered "four wit" (=with onions).  Then we ran back to the car and ate as we thawed out.  Here's mine.

It's so simple: philly steak, cheese whiz (i know, i know), fried onions, bun.  But it's so good!  The bread is that perfect level of chewiness, the steak is hot and steamy, the onions give it a little sweetness, and that salty who-knows-what-this-is-made-of cheese whiz is ever so delicious.  When in Rome...eat cheese whiz.

Definitely can't make this a habit, but it was a fantastic experience.
